Abstract Expressionism

Pollock. Just watched the movie tonight. Ed Harris does a phenomenal job of portraying the turbulent life of artist Jackson Pollock. As I revisit this photo I took last spring, all I want to do is clear my calendar, head to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and spend the ENTIRE day sitting in front of this painting.

Natural Elements

One of my favorite aspects of my prewar apartment? Undoubtedly the red brick wall. It is aged; it is cracked; it is dusty; it is perfect. There is something about each unintentional detail that adds character to the entire room. Yet I can't help but pair it with something fresh, something new, something natural. And so I love this framed coral piece resting nonchalantly against the towering bricks. Old, meet New--I think you two will get along splendidly...

Bouchon Bliss

After a few days in Maryland, I am now back in NYC and know exactly what my weekend will consist of: these unbelievable chocolate treats pictured above. If you are in NYC, run--do not walk!--to the nearest Bouchon Bakery (Columbus Circle) to get a taste of their signature Bouchons. At $1.75 a piece, they average about 87 1/2 cents per bite (yes they are small; yes they are expensive) but even in this economy I would give up my savings just to experience these little delights. Hope your weekend is delicious!...

Day Trip

Spontaneous trips to farmer's markets are always a welcome outing! I've been visiting family in Maryland this past week and we took a little day trip to simply drive around and see the fall colors. We came across this charming market (Catoctin Mountain Orchard) and couldn't help but stop in. Greeting us at the entrance of the tiny country store were endless smells of apple pie and blueberry crumble; outside, we were met with patches of pumpkins and fields of apple trees. We had a nice, lazy time just taking in all the sights and smells. Oh. And of course, I ended up with some pretty impressive pies...

Wine Nights

Nothing beats being home and enjoying long, lazy dinners with plenty of wine to go around. I've had a taste of this the last few days and it has been beyond blissful. Hopefully you know the feeling. Cheers!

A Perfect Match

What better way to start off your day than with coffee? (I will tell you)...start off your day with coffee and a cupcake! Or two.

I learned the art of eating dessert for breakfast long, long ago. From the beginning, my mother has always promoted the likes of chocolate, brownies, or cookies to jumpstart the day. She is the ultimate supporter of sweets. So when she made these (delicious!) pumpkin cupcakes, we all knew they would find their way to the breakfast table the next day. Sure enough, they did. And the coffee tasted all the better for it...

Autumn Adventure

Yesterday I labeled Apple Cider as a true sign that fall has arrived--and yet it is nothing compared to running around in a park of fallen leaves. The photo on the left warms my heart more than any Apple Cider possible could! In fact, it's a picture I took of my best friend who just arrived in New York City and is experiencing fall for the first time EVER (she comes from the desert-laden land of Arizona). Does her fall frolicking resemble that of a six-year-old? Most definitely. But luckily, that sort of joy is contagious. I hope you catch on!...
